Litomysl Organ ModelLitomysl is a lovely town in eastern Bohemia, practically at the border with Moravia. It is widely known as the birthplace of one of the most prominent Czech composers: Bedrich Smetana (1824-1884). Although he was celebrated as a pianist and a composer of opera as well as of orchestral music, he left some minor pieces for organ too (6 preludes, 1 fuge, 1 choral).Further back in history, it is recognized for its renaissance castle where the original baroque theatre is preserved and still in function. The summer festival takes place there every year under the name 'Smetanova Litomysl'. The Organ in the Church of the Holy CrossLittle is known about organs in the Church of the Holy Cross in those early times.
There was a late baroque instrument by Frantisek Pavel Horak (1723-1822) built in 1780. It had two manuals and a pedal with alltogether 22 stops.Later it was rebuilt completely in 1902 by Josef Kobrle (1851-1919).
The old organ purely baroque in style seemed not to meet the fasion of the early XXth century. The Kobrle's instrument beared signs of 'romantic' or symphonic organ which was desired at those times. It had also 2 manuals with 22 stops as the previous instrument but the brilliant aliquotes and high mixtures were replaced by lower sounding stops of many different colors: flutes, strings, reeds.Hundred years later, the ways of evaluating the organ qualities have changed again. We now admire the brilliance of the baroque sound, we love the logic of the hierarchy of the WerkPrinzip but at the same time we do not want to loose the variety of romantic coloring stops. Hence, many organbuiders tend to favour large organs with great diversity of stops to satisfy the needs of all musical styles.

Well, the purity of style is lost but the advantages of the 'universal' organ seem to prevail.Having this in mind, Vladimir Grygar (whose company is well known in many countries of the world for its craftsmenship) built completely new organ in the church of the Holy Cross. The work has been finished only in 2001. The new instrument has 4 manuals and 51 sounding stops (not counting couplers and other helpers).

What playback device(s) do you have available? The default sound library that ships with Sibelius 6 does not include lots of different organ registrations.People use various organ libraries with Sibelius with varying degrees of success. Hauptwerk should do all that you want, and the basic version is free, with some free organ sounds to download. The more advanced versions are very powerful, but not only are they expensive, but they need computers with VERY large amounts of RAM.You can set up channels 1 - 4 as Choir, Great, Swell and pedal, and 'shadow channels '(I use single percussion style lines) that contain the stop change instructions. Once these are hidden it looks like an ordinary organ score.I have helped other Sibelius users to set this up.

Hello David, Daniel and FrancescoAt first thanks for you three responses very usefulI have tried to implement the all software chain David described: Midi yoke, Mid-OX, GrandOrgue with the sample set (Gernot's happy birthday organ free sample from prospectum, ), and french version of Sibelius 6.2. After heaving installed every components, not without difficulties,I played a organ score on Sibelius(with preferred sound' keybord.organ' on' Out to MIDI Koke 1'), but I can't heard anything on PC.I' m quite sure the midi flow enters to MIDI-OX and exit from MIDI-OX because I see Midi message on the in-screen and out-screen of MIDI-OX, with followin events on OUT screen: PC: Church organ, Cc: Volume. Note On(With good notes), Note off, Control change.My conclusion is that GrandOrgue don't understand the Midi messages from Sibelius.
How can I check if GrandOrgue is running? What mistake or parameter problem there is?I use Sibelius for writing and playing Classical Scores of french XIXe music, more specifically Symphonic score, full score included organ part. I have tried this new software chain with only organ score. I have no external physical device.Could you help me please?

Hello FrancescoI have been so long to thanks you for your response but I had to check a lot of possibilities. It was long to perform but now I succeeded and I have connected to GreatOrgan Pibrac virtual organ. This sample set of PIBRAC Ste Marie Madeleine Church organ is not too expensive. Pibrac is near Toulouse where I live!To solve yours and mine problem of the two manuals connected one to Swell manual and the other to Great organ manual to PIBRAC, I have experimented this solution. I doubled Organ parts in Sibelius; First one with right hand only and the channel connected via MIDIOX to swell of GO/Pibrac, second with left hand and pedal connected to Great organ of GO/Pibrac and Pedal of GO/Pibrac.

On this way the two manuals are playing independently.But there is a big problem on Sibelius. I can't export in Wave format because Sibelius said me 'Some peripherals are not a virtual instrument'If the score contains only organ music I can use the record function of GO.But if organ score is mixed in symphonic score with strings and others instruments it's impossible.How do it?Thanks and regardsJack Posted by - 28 Mar 06:48PM.
